We have worked with area convention & visitors bureaus and hotels to assist in planning your visit, celebrating 250 years of the united states navy & united states marine corps. Each year on november 10, marines worldwide toast the memory of the tun in philadelphia as the acknowledged birthplace of the corps
The tavern’s history extends beyond the marines. The navy and marines were created in independence hall, organized at the historic tavern called the tun and launched their first ship and amphibious mission on the delaware river. As the result of our efforts, secretary of the navy carlos del toro has publicly announced that the navy and marine corps will celebrate their 250th anniversaries in philadelphia and camden in 2025.
