This session will introduce participants to the vermont early learning standards (vels) and review the definition, purpose, and use of vels in the context of developmentally appropriate best practices. The vermont early learning standards manual is a companion resource to vels with the intention of supporting and implementing developmentally appropriate practices across vermont early learning environments and settings. Our client wanted to better support vermont’s youngest children by making the vermont early learning standards (vels) more accessible to providers and families. The group will take this information using the vels to design curriculum and plan effective environments
Small groups will choose a theme or curriculum, choose related activities and use the vels to plan for the success of each child no matter the age and/or developmental level. The vels revision committee has worked from 2012 to the present to synthesize the changes in knowledge, research, and practice, both across the country and in vermont, and make recommendations for a new set of vermont early learning standards
