She was previously married to kjell rasten and xavier cugat. As a frequent television star through the '70s and early '80s, including on the popular show the love boat, charo made a name for herself as a singer, performer, and sometimes as a comedian. Charo revealed that he died by suicide after a battle with a rare and horrible skin disease called bullous pemphigoid
